A first on our schedule. A light hike that encompasses the historic J. Roosevelt estate along Brown's River; after the hike, visit the National Register-listed estate house (tours usually available) or have a glass of wine at a small vineyard on a portion of the original estate property; bring water, insect/tick protection; rain cancels; From Sunrise Highway (NY 27) take exit 49 south onto Lakeland Avenue (becomes Railroad Ave.) about 1.8 miles to Main Street, make a left and then a quick, slight right onto South Main Street (becomes Middle Road), go about ½  mile to park entrance on the left, right before small bridge; proceed to site on dirt road, stay straight at fork, go past large barn on left; address: 299 Middle Rd., Sayville.
