Help keep the trails open

Volunteer on the Trails

Will you lend a hand?

With more than 200 miles across Long Island, it takes many hands to keep our trails and open spaces beautiful for all to enjoy. Whether you takeover a piece of the trail, join a work outing, or lead one of our many free, public hikes throughout the year, your time and dedication will support the Long Island Greenbelt Trail Conference.

Where We Need Help

Where We Need Help —

Maintain Trails

Our trails would not exist without volunteer trail maintainers. From coordinating various efforts of trail maintainers to specific trail coordinators to individual trail maintainers, our goal is to make all Greenbelt Trails environmentally sustainable, easy to use and inviting, clearly and consistently marker, and safe and free of impediments.

Join a Work Outing

Volunteer on the trails by assisting trail maintainers during planned work outings. Clear trails of natural obstructions and litter, protect trails from erosion, report trail problems, and more. Together, we’ll keep (and improve) Greenbelt Trails to be enjoyable for all.

Lead a Hike

Share your love of nature and exploration by becoming a hike leader. Long Island Greenbelt Trail Conference members are invited to join our team as we need hundreds of free, public hikes throughout the year. As a hike leader and representative of the organization, you will plan and lead hikes across 200+ miles of trails, educate members on the different trails you explore, and encourage an appreciation for fellow hikers of all skill levels.
